Wait, say what now? You can have a zero-burger breakfast at Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, which happens to be – and this one is obvious – a burger joint?

You read it right! I was surprised when I heard the news – in a good way, of course. I can’t remember ever having burgers for breakfast but I love the burgers at Teddy’s Bigger Burgers. In other words, the fact that I can enjoy breakfast without burgers in a place known for burgers equals the best of both worlds.

Breakfast at Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, anyone?

At Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, you can enjoy breakfast all you want… without taking a single bite of their burgers. You can if you want, of course, but we all know how Filipinos can be stubborn about their rice policy. “If there’s no rice, it’s not a meal!”

As round a zero as this lifesaver thingy which I wanted to take home with me.

I know, I know, you aren’t a true-blue Filipino if you don’t enjoy the typical rice combo for breakfast. There’s a reason why we have gone as far as coining the terms cornsilog and baconsilog! We want our rice and we want our eggs, Pinoy-style!

Thank goodness a burger haven like Teddy’s Bigger Burgers – a popular diner which hails all the way from Hawaii, by the way – finally thought of giving us their own version of the Pinoy breakfast meals we can’t live without.

So, what’s for breakfast? All that is up next!

Rice meals, pancakes – you name it

If you can’t live without rice for breakfast, you’ll love their rice meal options. Choose from bacon, corned beef hash, or pastrami. Your choice of viand comes with either plain rice or fries, and not just one, but two eggs!

If you’re a fan of Salisbury steak, try Teddy’s Big Loco Moco. Imagine a patty made of 100 percent USDA ground beef, grilled and served on top of heaping steamed rice. Of course, it won’t be complete without a sunny-side-up fried egg on top and the matching gravy!

Just for kicks, try getting your Loco Moco the Western way – that is, with onion rings and bacon. If you think that sounds superb, wait until you taste it!

Speaking of rice, you can always enjoy it in a tortilla wrap, a la breakfast burrito! You get bacon, salsa, eggs, and flavored rice (of course there’s rice), with garlic mayo!

breakfast burritoIf you’re late for a meeting, order the Breakfast Burrito to go. Seriously, I have run out of “noms” to describe it!

Oh, and then there are the pancakes. Pancakes! Drool…

Try the classic ones, which come as a pair of really fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth goodness, served with whipped cream, sugar, and caramel sauce. You can’t go wrong with good old pancakes!

banana peanut butter pancakesOf course, you can try the fancier pancakes: blueberry, strawberry, banana peanut butter, and macadamia vanilla caramel. Hungry yet?

And if you believe their breakfast options are up to par, you might want to come back for lunch – I’ll give you 5 healthy reasons to try their burgers! It’s great timing, really, because they have new burgers for us to try.

New Burgers, Good Ol’ Flavor

I absolutely love the Samurai Burger. It’s my all-time favorite! It’s got crispy sweet potato and nori strips – together, their crunch just gives this burger a texture I can’t have enough of.

Samurai BurgerJust like all the good Japanese food I love, the Samurai Burger also has wasabi mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce.

If you like bananas and peanut butter, order the Elvis Burger. Order two while you’re at it! It boasts of peanut butter inside its Hawaiian burger goodness, plus bananas and bacon, of course.

Elvis burgerFun fact about the Elvis Burger: This eponymous burger probably tastes just like the burgers Elvis Presley himself loved. A little bird told me that Elvis liked his burgers with bananas, peanut butter, and bacon, too!

And then there’s the Bandito Burger. If you’re feeling a little bored and you want your burger to come with an adrenaline rush, the name of this burger says it all.

bandito burgerThe Bandito Burger is my second favorite; I have a soft spot for anything that sets my mouth on fire! It’s got jalapeno and cheese sauce. Man, this burger would go down well with a guilty but willing accomplice: tacos!

Teddy's classic burgerIf you’re a purist, why not go for the classic burger? I say it’s the buffer test of any burger joint. If the classic is good, you can bet almost everything else on the menu is.

Where to get your Teddy’s Bigger Burgers fix

Look, it’s really this simple: If you love good food, you’ll love Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, located in two perfect spots in the metro: EDSA Shangrila Plaza Mall and Greenbelt 3. My personal recommendation: Try their milkshakes – those are to die for!

Just make sure you’re really hungry because the size of these burgers will definitely bring out the patay-gutom in you! And yes, in this case, that’s not a bad thing.

So, is the trip to Teddy’s Bigger Burgers worth it? As my tummy can attest to, the answer is a heartfelt, bigger-than-my-tummy yes.
